Today we had some nice weather and this is very rare in this part of the world. This morning I was determined to get out of the house and make most of this rarity.
After long deliberation to find suitable destination for my adventure I decided to go and see some old WW2 era bunkers and defence positions dotted around Welsh coast.
Lavernock … not too far from home, located on the cliffs and really nice beach close by was the winner.

One of the most notable historical events associated with Lavernock is its connection to the early history of radio communication. In 1897, the famous inventor Guglielmo Marconi conducted a pioneering radio transmission from Lavernock Point to Flat Holm Island. This event marked an important milestone in the development of wireless communication and was one of the first instances of long-distance radio transmission. A memorial and information board on Lavernock Point commemorate Marconi’s achievement and the village’s role in the history of radio.
Lavernock
Lavernock is also known for its natural beauty. The surrounding area is a mix of coastal cliffs, beaches, and scenic countryside, making it a popular spot for walking and outdoor activities. The nearby Lavernock Nature Reserve is a peaceful area, home to a variety of local wildlife and plant species. The reserve offers trails that allow visitors to explore the coastal landscape and enjoy the serenity of the area.
Another highlight is the charming Lavernock Point, a coastal promontory offering panoramic views of the Bristol Channel. This area is particularly popular with birdwatchers due to its location along migration routes.
Some stunning views from the top of the cliffs and also from the beach .

It was little windy and little cold, but it was all worth it ..
